It might be the future of Face Recognition lock system, the first of which was revealed by Apple in 2017 implemented in their iPhone 10 (X) model.

Although this phone at first was pretty bulky but considering it was a prototype implementation, this might change after time.

Vivo also announced that this model will be able to detect your face from 3 metres away, however this wasn't seen in real.

This type of 3D modelling will find applications in not only Face unlock but also in AR apps and facial navigation.
